The ‘Students Go Green’ project took place in the summer of 2014 and engaged a total of 60 university students from Koç University and four main Istanbul Universities (Sabancı University, Özyeğin University, Boğaziçi University and İstanbul Technical University) as well as University of Chicago and Indiana University to meet for a 3-day boot camp that involved sustainability training on campus, enabling dialogue between participants and academia and helping students realize the initiation of their own green projects on their respective campuses. The project idea was brought to KU by Yeşilist green platform. The project is funded by the U. S. Consulate General in Istanbul.

Student teams from each participating Turkish university went through a process of developing their projects under the supervision of their mentoring professors in their universities, and were assessed based on the creativity of their project proposals, levels of engagement (i.e. on campus, social media, etc.), and the launch of the first phase of their respective projects. International Special Projects unit organized the Award Ceremony on January 16th, 2015 at RCAC with the participation of the U.S. Consul General. Following the presentation of the projects, a jury composed of well-known journalists and NGO leaders selected two winning teams, whose award was a trip to the US to take part in a ‘summer sustainability program’, which was for 3 days at the University of Chicago and 3 days at Indiana University in the summer of 2015.
