Nomination and Application Procedures

I Nomination

Online Nomination Form

Koç University receives incoming exchange student nominations through the KUAPP online portal. The link to this portal is shared with all partners via email.

Nomination and Application Dates:

Fall: 1st April - 1st June, 2018

Spring: 1st September - 1st November, 2018

Summer: 23rd February - 30th of April, 2018

Please kindly note that nominations end at 5:00 pm local time on the last day. In order to prevent any loss of data, nominations are accepted through the online module only.

Procedures and Steps

Every semester Koç University’s Office of International Programs (OIP) contacts its partner universities and informs them about the online student nomination procedures. Our partners nominate students who meet our general admission criteria on Koç University's KUAPP system. Student applications also take place on this system once the nomination process has been completed.

Requirements for Nominating a Student

Global Exchange Students (From Americas, Asia, Australia)

  • Students should have completed at least one year of study (one semester of study for graduate students except CEMS students) at their home university.
  • Students must meet a GPA of at least 3.0 on 4.0 scale, or grades equivalent to a B/credit average unless otherwise stated in the institutional agreement. Exchange students should liaise with their exchange advisor for academic and GPA requirements specific to their university.

Erasmus+

  • Students should have completed at least one year of study (one semester of study for graduate students except CEMS students) at their home university.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.2/4.00 for undergraduates and a 2.5/4.00 for graduate students. 
  • Applicants from the Netherlands are expected to have obtained a GPA that is equivalent to a 7 out of 10 in the Dutch education system. 
  • However, exchange students should liaise with their exchange advisor for specific academic requirements for specific academic and GPA requirements for their university.
  • At Koç University, medium of instruction is in English. Therefore, it’s required to present a document that states your proficiency in English.
  • Koç University requires minimum B2 (CEFR) or TOEFL PBT 550; TOEFL CBT 213; TOEFL IBT 80 or IELTS 6.5.These exams must be taken within the last two years.
  • If the student is a native English speaker, or has already been studying in an English speaking country, at a higher education program (USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore and UK, etc) then the student does not need to take these exams.
  • For Erasmus exchange program, language requirement is as stated in the agreement between two institutions. Required documentation should be provided accordingly.

II Application

To be eligible to apply, you should have been nominated by your International Programs coordinator at your home university. Nominated students are sent our Online Application Form which should be filled out carefully. Please note that we need to have scanned copies of your transcript, and your English language certificate as well as a valid passport, passport size photograph for your Koç University ID card and residence permit.

Application Requirements

  • You must be a full time student at your home university
  • Your home university and Koç University must have an exchange agreement.
  • You must be nominated by your home institution.
  • For Erasmus students the CGPA (cumulative grade point average) must be 2.2 for undergraduate students and 2.5 graduate students or above on a 4.0 scale which keeps academic standards high and ensures students ability to take courses at Koç.
  • For students coming from Non -Erasmus partners the CGPA must not be below the agreed grade.
  • Since the academic language at KU is English, exchange students need to be proficient in English to understand professors and successfully complete their coursework.  Koç University requires minimum B2 (CEFR) or TOEFL PBT 550; TOEFL CBT 213; TOEFL IBT 80 or IELTS 6.5. These exams must be taken within the last two years. Application Form

Student applications also take place on KUAPP once the nomination process has been completed. Subsequently, students are sent an automatic message with their own log-in credentials and they may begin the application procedure immediately. Students are expected to fill out and submit their forms by the end of the application period. It should be noted that applications close at 5.00 pm local time on the last day of the application period.

Remarks

Electronic acceptance letters are delivered via KUAPP with an electronic signature. If requested, the exchange office can provide the students and/or their exchange advisors with a hard copy acceptance letter.

III Acceptance

When you are accepted as an Exchange Student, Koç University Office of International Programs will send you an e-mail including a pre-arrival guide that gives you all neccesary information about getting a visa, required documents for your residence permit, the procedures about health insurance as well as academics, student life and transportation.

Following the acceptance stage, you will receive student ID number, Koc University e-mail account and password to access KUSIS (Koc University Information System) to apply dormitory and to enrol courses via e-mail by OIP.

Scholarship Opportunities

Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) is a public charitable organization founded to promote goodwill between the United States and Turkey and to enhance a better understanding of Turkish American issues through public Education. TCA sponsor sup to 100 “Study Abroad in Turkey” scholarships per year for African American, Hispanic American and Native American students. These scholarships are awarded to eligible undergraduate and graduate level students who have been accepted to a University in Turkey. Scholarships range from $500 to $2.000 and are intended to contribute towards the cost of studying abroad. For more information, please click here.
