Save the date: Koç University Virtual Study Abroad Fair!

As Office of International Programs, we are thrilled to invite you to take part in our very first Virtual Study Abroad Fair. Our aim is to connect our students directly with the representatives of partner universities and to increase awareness on the diverse mobility opportunities with our esteemed partners all around the world.

The fair will be held on January 26, 2021 with two separate sessions: between 10 am – 12 pm and between 4 pm – 6 pm, UTC +3 (İstanbul local time), and virtual through Microsoft Teams. Each university will have a virtual booth (channel) and Koc University students will be able to visit each booth to talk with representatives and ask their questions.

Latest on Global Partnerships


Koç University Office of International Programs provides several opportunities for students and staff along with research activities and cultural awareness. We are glad to share that Koç University has received an important amount of Erasmus+ICM grants this year by taking the 9th place among 75 universities eligible for funding. Koç University has been collaborating with the leading global institutions to explore new partnerships for the mobility of students and academic staff members. We look forward to further increasing our projects with new partners.

Lately, the pandemic has deeply impacted the way conferences are held. However, we still follow the virtual gatherings and events on international higher education closely, and actively take part in those events such as PIM Conference, EAIE Conference and Jindal Law Conference. Dean of Koç University Law School Prof. Bertil Oder was invited to represent Koç Law School in the virtual conference on “Shifting Focuses in Legal Research During the Pandemic” by Jindal Law School.

SSUN held its first webinar series to discuss and investigate Artificial Intelligence from multiple perspectives. As one of the members of SSUN, Koc University was represented in the SSUN’s webinar series by Prof. Erdem Yörük with his seminar titled “The Potentials and Challenges of Using Artificial Intelligence to Understand Social Movements”.

In the meantime, our Global Recruitment Team keeps being easily accessible via digital tools such as Zoom for our future international students.

Distant but Connected by Heart! : Mobilities During the Pandemic

KU has welcomed its 1st cohort of Incoming Exchange Students with fully remote class sessions. On the 1st and 2nd of October 2020, we had our Orientation Days for the incoming exchange students with lots of help from our well-trained and diligent mentor students. Although a virtual semester is out of the ordinary for everyone, we have a lot to offer and we are glad to host 29 students from 10 countries during Fall 2020. We have moved our services online and have planned a variety of activities and events for our incomings. Many of our outgoing students had to switch to online exchange at their host institutions from March 2020 onwards, as well. However, this did not stop our students to enjoy their wonderful exchange destinations!

Social innovation for change at campus: Global Learning and Leadership Program (GLLP)

In Spring ’20 as part of MGMT 210 Changemaking in Action Course, GLLP students worked in teams on various projects such as increasing diversity and inclusion at the campus; creating a sustainable mindset; providing a platform to enable individuals to reach correct and accurate information through social media; and establishing an online website for refugees to sell their products for sustainable income. As the 3rd Cohort, four GLLP students completed training to join the University Innovation Fellows. The Program is run by Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (d.school) and this campus initiative is supported by Mr. Mahmut Ozdemir, KWORKS Director and Ms. Rena Polat Korkmaz, Team Leader, International Education and Mobility Programs at KU. Last but not least, KU as Co-organising university, identified and nominated three GLLP students to attend to the “Global Youth Leaders Summit 2020: Transforming Crisis into Re-connection” that was organized by the Service-Learning and Leadership Office (SLLO) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) on 24th October, 2020.

Global Programs & Projects: A Very UNIC Project is Coming Your Way!

We have officialy been a “European University” now as a part of the European University of Post-Industrial Cities (UNIC) Consortium, with a 3-year start-up grant of €5 million, provided by the “European Universities” instrument of the European Commission. The European Commission proposed the European Universities initiative as part of an overall vision for the creation of a European Education Area by 2 As one of the leading research universities of Turkey, Koç University (KU) strives to be part of Erasmus+ KA2 & KA3 partnerships in order to create new knowledge with its partners. "Learning never stops!" That’s our motto for this year, despite of what happened all over the world. We are also tremendously happy to announce that we will be offering “International Migration and the Crisis- The Basic Instinct: Survival” program again for the summer of 2021.

International Community News

In Spring ‘20, the International Community Services Office (ICO) introduced Online Turkish Practice Hours (TPH) to the KU international community. TPH received great interest and helped the Turkish learning foreigners at KU, including family members, practice their conversational Turkish skills with volunteers. TPH in Fall ‘20 started with new twists to achieve more interaction with participants. Moreover, a standardized campus tour was already created by the ICO. In Fall’20, the campus tour was designed in a PPT Show format resulting in a Visual Introduction to KU. Thanks to this visual show, anyone from anywhere can explore the university and the main campus anytime. Last but not least, the ICO had an interview with a Ph.D. student, Gyulten Hyusein, to observe and share international student perspective on campus and in Istanbul.
