Cornell University Seminar
On January 2012, Cornell University, Johnson Business School organized a 10-day study trip to Turkey and Bulgaria for a group of 20 Johnson students and Koç University welcomed the group on our main campus for lectures and to meet with students at Koc University’s Graduate School of Business in Istanbul. As a part of the seminar, the group had the chance to meet with many business leaders in both Istanbul and in Sofia, Bulgaria, including Bülent Ozaydinli, CEO of Migros Türk, the largest Turkish food retailer; Yavuz Erkut, CEO, and Mesut Ilter, refinery manager, of the Izmir Refinery of Tüpraş Turkish Petroleum Refineries Co., a conglomerate of Turkish oil refineries belonging to the Koç Group; Rahmi Koç, honorary chairman of the Koç Holding Group, the biggest industrial conglomerate in Turkey; and Husnu Ozyegin, financier and owner of FIBA Holding, a group of finance companies in turkey, as well as a prominent philanthropist and founder of Ozyegin University in Istanbul. They also visited Turkcell, Turkey’s largest mobile phone operator, where Cornell alumni Zeynep Ozbil, MPA ’02, of Turkcell’s corporate citizenship department and Johnson graduate Nevra Duru, MBA ’98, corporate customs manager, led a presentation. And of course there were also two days of sightseeing, including a boat trip on the Bosporus. “International Special Projects Department” will again be directly engaged in the planning and organizing every detail concerning the program.
